Nestled amidst Frankfurt's banking high-rises, one finds tucked away in the city centre a beautiful red sandstone structure, which also happens to be one of the most important buildings in German history. Erected between 1789 and 1833, St Paul's Church served as Frankfurt's main Protestant church until 1944. In 1848 and 1849, the neoclassical rotunda hosted the delegates of the first freely elected German national assembly, the fathers of Germany's modern-day constitution.
