Getting to the Städel

How to reach the Städel Museum on foot or with public transport

From the central station "Hauptbahnhof" to the Städel Museum

On foot

Exit the central station via the main entrance and walk straight ahead on Kaiserstraße. Turn right at the first intersection on Moselstraße and walk to the end of the street until you reach the river Main. Walk across the bridge Holbeinsteg to cross the river.
Traveling time: app. 10 minutes

With public transport

Exit the central station via the main entrance. Cross the street and take the tram number 16, direction Offenbach. Exit at "Otto-Hahn-Platz". From the walk app. 3 minutes on Holbeinstraße in direction of the river Main, then turn right on Schaumainkai.
Traveling time: app. 10 minutes

You may also take bus number 46, direction Sachsenhausen, on the south side of the central station. Exit at the third stop "Städel".
Traveling time: app. 10 minutes

From Römerberg (old town centre) to the Städel Museum

On foot

Walk across the Römerberg, then follow the narrow alley "Fahrtor" to the river Main. Cross the river via the footbridge Eiserner Steg and turn right on Schaumainkai. Follow the street all the way to the Städel Museum, you'll pass the bridge Untermainbrücke on the way.
Traveling time: app. 15 minutes

With public transport

Take the subway lines U4 or U5, direction Hauptbahnhof. Exit the central station via the main entrance and walk straight ahead on Kaiserstraße. Turn right at the first intersection on Moselstraße and walk to the end of the street until you reach the river Main. Walk across the bridge Holbeinsteg to cross the river.
Traveling time: app. 20 minutes

You can also take the tram number 14, direction Ernst-May-Platz. Exit at Börneplatz/Stoltzestraße and take the tram number 18, direction Louisa. Exit at the Frankensteiner Platz. From there take bus number 46, direction Römerhof, exit at the Städel Museum.
Traveling time: app. 25 minutes
